The Beginning
On November 30, 2005, I retired from the Vancouver Police Department after almost 31 years of service. During that time I kept a web page of the poetry I had written, at http:\\members.tripod.com\Sir_Fuzz
On December 17, 2005, Renee and I attended the PMBA Christmas Dance at the Bayshore Inn. It is a lavish affair and we had a great time. Late in the evening, the draw for door prizes took place. Our ticket was 018. All through the evening, I kept saying that we were going to win the big prize, just joking around. Joking, because I never win anything. After a hundred draws, it came time for the final draw.
Norm Webster read out the final number, for a $1500 travel voucher. The numbers that came up were Zero-One-Eight. I sat there looking around to see who had won, but, I could not see anyone heading for the podium. I became dimly aware of Renee nudging my shoulder and saying "it's our number, it's our number". Finally it sunk in, we had won. My drought was over.
What an incredible finish to a great evening.
